Developing a generation of ‘sporting citizens’

Pass It On is a community netball program designed by Pacific communities, for Pacific communities, using the power of netball to support children and adolescents to live healthy, happy and gender-equitable lives.

Building on the success of the Team Up One Netball program, which has been delivered across the Pacific since 2021, Pass It On was co-designed by Netball Australia, Netball Papua New Guinea, Netball Samoa and Tonga Netball Association in partnership with the Australian Government’s Team Up program.  Joining the program in mid-2026, Netball Fiji will also play a pivotal role in implementing this program across Fijian communities into the future.

At the heart of Pass It On is a deeply valued Pacific tradition: the passing of knowledge, skills and values from one generation to the next. The program combines netball participation with life skills development, empowering young people to build confidence, develop leadership skills and create positive change within their communities.

Through a collaborative redesign process grounded in Pacific culture and guided by Talanoa – the sharing of ideas through conversation and storytelling – Pacific Netball Federations identified local priorities, challenges and opportunities to ensure the program reflects the needs of their communities.

Pass It On uses fun, engaging and inclusive netball activities to:

  • Promote healthy lifestyles and wellbeing
  • Build confidence, resilience and leadership skills
  • Understand what healthy relationships are
  • Encourage teamwork, inclusion and respect
  • Foster gender equity and positive social change
  • Create safe and supportive learning environments

The program is delivered by trained local coaches, teachers, volunteers and community leaders who are equipped to provide engaging netball experiences while supporting participants’ social and personal development.

Currently being piloted in Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Tonga and Fiji, Pass It On represents the next chapter in Pacific community netball – a culturally relevant program that empowers the next generation to learn, lead and thrive through sport.
